Praying, Living, & Loving the Franciscan Way
A few times a year, the department of Franciscan Spirituality & Callings invites all who wish to participate in an evening of conversation, reflection, adoration, & dessert, an event that is known as Franciscan Pie & Prayer. The evenings or afternoons are quite lovely, inviting all to share their thoughts, reflect on the word of God, and think about how we turn his words into action in our own lives. We are blessed to have so many minds and ideas contributed to the sessions. All are welcome! We encourage young adults to join and share a fresh perspective! Thank you to those who joined us last week Thursday. The cold night was filled with warmth and love.

Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, Deb Olla, Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at St. Dominic’s, Brookfield, brought 24 students to tour the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi Motherhouse and then gather in St. Francis Chapel for prayer and a panel on Lifestyles. Two neighboring seminarians joined the panel and brought with them 2 Carmelite sisters and a woman who is in the process of becoming a consecrated virgin. Sister Adele (long scarf, front row) led the panel, inviting each person to say how they first heard the call to follow Christ in their chosen way of life. Then each person spoke of what prayer meant to them. This was followed by each one sharing their ministry and service. Sister Joyanne, to Adele’s left and Sister Barbara, standing to the far right, were panelists. Deb Olla first met Sister Adele as her teacher of Youth Ministry at Cardinal Stritch University. Deb has brought a group annually to learn about religious callings. Next year the group hopes to have a married deacon and his wife on the panel. The fullness of Christian life is played out as we learn to love God, our neighbor and our world in whatever call we are attracted to live. Each calling is unique and a way to holiness. Discernment is learning to listen to our calling, whatever life style is ours. Discernment workshops are offered in our diocese all year long by sisters, brothers and priests. Although they offer them, they fully understand that some people will find the prayer and reflection helpful but not be attracted to religious life or priesthood. It’s a great way to learn to listen to God’s Spirit. So see sites: ReligiousLifeWI.org or for the diocesan priests: www.thinkpriest.org As we prepare for the change of the seasons, we remember the beauty of God’s creation and appreciate the winter white.
“A Winter Blessing” By: Joyce Rupp from The Circle of Life Blessed are you, winter, you faithfully guard a life unseen, calling those who listen deeply to discover winter rest. Blessed are you, winter, frozen and cold on the outside, within your silent, nurturing womb you warmly welcome all that longs for renewal. Blessed are you, winter, you teach us valuable lessons about waiting in darkness with hope and trust. Blessed are you, winter, season of blood red sunsets and star-filled, long, dark nights, faithfully you pour out your beauty. Blessed are you, winter, when your tiny snowflakes flurry through the air, You awaken our sleeping souls. Blessed are you, winter, with your wild and varied moods, So intent on being yourself, you refuse to be a people-pleaser. Blessed are you, winter, when ice storms crush our hearts and homes, You call forth the good in us as we rush to help one another. Blessed are you, winter, your inconsistent moods often challenge Spring’s arrival, yet how gracefully you step aside when her time has come. We are very excited to have this page to keep you up to date on all the happenings of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi!
We will continue to post stories and photos of the things the Sisters of our community are doing. Praying and LIVING the Gospel are important to the Franciscan way of life. We invite you to share our stories, comment, and maybe one day join us in some of our adventures. God gives us many blessings and talents. Let's use them! |
