Praying, Living, & Loving the Franciscan Way
On Sunday, July 24, 18 Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi celebrated their anniversaries of religious profession with a Jubilarian Mass in Mater Christi Chapel at the Cousins Center in St. Francis, Wis. The ceremony was officiated by the Most Rev. Richard J Sklba, who gave the homily. The jubilarians, who represent a total of 1,105 years of religious life, renewed their vows at the ceremony.

There has certainly been a spike in activity at the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi Motherhouse Grounds over the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately, it has come to the attention of the congregation that our sacred grounds are being enjoyed for something more than the natural and peaceful beauty. While the sisters appreciate the company and have never restricted visitors on the grounds, it is not appropriate to be playing Pokémon Go or any other “game” on /in/near the convent, other buildings or structures, sculptures or statuary.
These grounds are not only consecrated, but they also serve as residences to many of our elderly sisters. We ask out of consideration for both our sisters, as well as the serenity of the property, to please stop trying to ‘catch ‘em all’ on our grounds. We also ask that the same consideration be paid to other properties that are private or hold special meaning, such as cemeteries, churches, or other holy locations. The creators of the game have been notified and asked to move Poké Stops to alternative locations in the St. Francis Area. The Annual Franciscan Federation Conference was held in Milwaukee, Wis. June 17 to 20. Sister Linda Tan, pictured here, was among the past presidents and executive directors who were honored as the Federation marked its 50-year anniversary. Sr. Linda served as the Federation’s 2007-08 president. Each former president and executive director received a plaque in gratitude for their generous service. Each also received a beautiful corsage and recognition at a festive banquet. Thank you to all who joined us on June 26 for our mini pilgrimage, despite the heat!
A Special thanks to Sr. Margaret and Sr. KD for leading both in and outdoor options. We look forward to seeing you in October! Associates from Lowell, Massachusetts came together on June 25 for the first commitment of Damian Deneault and Netchie Patterson-Sampson, and the renewal commitments of Elizabeth Conlon, Elizabeth Klamka and Colette Langlois. The ceremony evolved in the context of midday prayer, signaling that God is good. Sister Diana De Bruin, director of the congregation, echoed Francis’ words: “The Most High revealed to me that I should live according to the Holy Gospel. . .” Associates follow Francis to Christ with the same desire to live the Gospel in their daily lives and through their ministries. The prayer called “Intercessions,” written by Associate Mary Carian, provided meaningful reflection. Before leaving the celebration, the gathering enjoyed traditional Franciscan hospitality, including a buffet lunch, provided by Priscilla LeBlanc. After pictures and interaction with family and friends, the group moved on with the challenge, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
