Praying, Living, & Loving the Franciscan Way
Thank you to all who joined us for a beautiful Sunday walk around the Motherhouse Grounds for our annual mini-pilgrimage! We look forward to seeing everyone again in the fall for the next Franciscan Pie & Prayer!
Hosted by St. Ann Center Bucyrus Campus and St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care Inc. Wednesday, July 26 at 9 AM - 1 PM St. Ann Center Bucyrus Campus 2450 W North Ave, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53205 First-ever Vintage & Costume Jewelry Sale at our Bucyrus Campus! If you like (or never had the chance to attend) our vintage jewelry collection sales at our Stein Campus, you won't want to miss this huge sale at our new Bucyrus Campus, 2450 W. North Ave. It will feature our popular, wide-ranging vintage jewelry collection -- which includes pieces of all types and styles, from heirloom vintage to trendy contemporary to funky costume jewelry. And it's all at prices beloved by fashionistas on a budget. How? These pieces are donated all year long. Dedicated volunteers sort them, polish them up, make any needed repairs, card and price them and then sell them. Nothing is wasted -- even jewelry pieces beyond salvage for wearing are sold in bulk to recycle into art or craft projects. All proceeds from the sale benefit the clients served by the nonprofit center, from the very young to the frail elderly to adults with disabilities and those with Alzheimer's. Sisters, associates, and friends joined the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi team to participate in the annual Capuchins' Run-Walk for the Hungry over the weekend. Out of the 1,500+ participants, approximately 86 were registered with the OSF Team. Participants on our team ranged in age from 3-year-old Molly to 99-year-old Sister Rosanne Sanders, who was a donor. This was the 12th year for the event whose proceeds benefit Capuchin Community Services. See and share more photos plus Team photos of the 2017 celebration at: CapuchinCommunityServices.org Last week, some of our sisters took a trip to visit the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center to learn about some of Wisconsin's habitat and wildlife.
The presentation included a cute toad, a small snake, a box turtle, a salamander (in the glass tank as it's fragile), and a snake skin. Schlitz Audubon Nature Center conserves our land’s diverse habitats on Lake Michigan and provides meaningful experiences and environmental education for all. To learn more, visit www.schlitzaudubon.org On June 13, the sisters and staff were honored to host Justin Tolomeo, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Milwaukee Division, (pictured here with Sr. Joanne) for dinner and a tour of the Motherhouse. The FBI headquarters is located about a mile south of the Motherhouse, so we were grateful for this opportunity to meet our neighbor. Sisters and residents of Clare Hall took a special field trip to St. Ann's Intergenerational Care Center - Bucyrus Campus on the North Side of Milwaukee.
While there, visitors were given a tour of the campus, including shops, as well as participate in a special event at the Dental Clinic. Sr. Rita held a Rosary for World Peace Rally at her residence, in commemoration of the Blessed Mother’s apparition to three Portuguese children at Fatima 100 years ago on that date. Working alongside the Knights of Columbus, St. Paul Church, and Fr. Sippel, the prayerful day emphasized the importance of Peace, in our own backyards and throughout the World.
On Saturday May 6th, six OSFs went to a talk about Pope Francis' "Laudato Si" that Sr Amata Miller, IHM, presented at the SSSFs. It was called "Confronting the Roots." It was about how we are to respect the Earth & its creatures & understand that we have hit our limit in how much we take from her. Some action roles we could do to help her include to study and teach from the perspective of the poor, strategize and organize for political action to make changes happen, and to choose a life style in light of all people and the Earth. |
