Praying, Living, & Loving the Franciscan Way
The sisters visited the Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility (wastewater treatment) as part of the "Season of Creation” event series in September. They learned about the 4 stage process of wastewater cleaning --
1. Screening - Large and small objects are removed, like towels, sand and gravel. 2. Primary Clarification - Grease and oil float to the top of large settling tanks. Solids sink to the bottom and are collected to make energy. 3. Biological Treatment - Microscopic organisms, "bugs", break down organic material. 4. Disinfection - Disease causing organisms are killed by chemicals that are then neutralized. Clean water is returned to Lake Michigan.

Back by popular demand, here is a small video presentation from this year's Pet Blessing!
Enjoy! ☺🐾🍿 😁🐾🍿 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28mn1IYGVnI&t=6s It's getting colder outside and darker earlier. Before we know it, the Christmas Season will be upon us! Our Sisters have created some beautiful cards to send messages of peace, joy, and love this season!
There is no set charge for these cards, but we ask that, if able, you make a donation that you feel is appropriate. Your contribution will help the retirement and ministry needs of our Sisters. Visit http://www.lakeosfs.org/support-us/cards-calendar/ and click on Donate on the top right to order yours today! Yesterday we celebrated our 71st Anniversary; our students learned about how Richard Cardinal Cushing and the Sisters of St Francis of Assisi opened our organization back in 1947, and shared their own stories about Cushing.
Of course, no celebration would be complete without dessert! We want to thank Montilio's Baking Company for providing such a great cake for our students and staff to enjoy. It's chilly and dreary today, so we looked for a photo from #StritchServiceDay to warm everyone's hearts ...
Chancellor emerita Sister Camille Kliebhan, OSF, who turned 95 in April, is shown with faculty and staff who worked at the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi Motherhouse yesterday. We love you Sister Camille! Pets and their owners joined us at the Motherhouse Grounds for this year's Annual Pet Blessing at the end of September. Fr. Scott and Fr. Dennis blessed each of the animals individually.
Sr. Mary Lou and Sr. Helene hosted a Garden Party on Sept 14 to thank and celebrate the many devoted and hard working volunteers who assist in our garden tasks throughout the year. Good food, including our garden produce and delicious homemade pies, were available and all who participated enjoyed the event.
