The position is the key leader responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects in support of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi (OSF) capital campaign fundraising goals and beyond. JOB TITLE: Director of Major Gifts STATUS: Full time, exempt REPORTS TO: Administrative Team, the leadership of the OSF Congregation POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Major Gifts is the key leader responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects in support of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi (OSF) capital campaign fundraising goals and beyond. The Major Gifts Director reports to a member of the Administrative Team and works closely with OSF leadership and the Development Team to develop major gift fundraising strategies, tap their expertise, and achieve the capital campaign fundraising goals. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Develop and manage a major giving strategy a. Develop an understanding of OSF history, capital campaign plans, and future fundraising needs b. Research trends and data to create viable major gift strategies c. Create effective major gifts and grant program d. Work with consultants to qualify potential donors and create prospect profiles e. Work and train members of the Administrative Team, congregation, Development staff, and campaign cabinet members to identify major gift prospects through fundraising strategies and ongoing activities f. Develop and implement individualized strategies for each prospect/donor in portfolio to increase overall giving levels 2. Secure major gifts, special project support, and planned gifts in accordance with the capital campaign and major gift goals a. Provide reports and follow-up to donors as needed a. Oversee campaign needs, and create case for charitable support to potential donors b. Develop and maintain meaningful relationships that engage major donors and prospects with OSF mission through calls, events and solicitations 3. Support the organization’s comprehensive fund development efforts a. Oversee the work of the Campaign Assistant to ensure prompt, friendly customer service to all donors and stakeholders b. Document call notes promptly and share information with colleagues, as needed c. Work with other staff to develop fundraising strategies for new projects d. Monitor critical success measures in major giving and develop strategies to ensure healthy growth e. Attend and support special events and functions as needed Additional Responsibilities as assigned: Any duties assigned at the discretion of the Administrative Team Job Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s Degree Experience: Three to five years of experience in major gift fundraising in a professional environment; Demonstrated success raising gifts of between $100,000 to $1 million+; Knowledge of the Milwaukee philanthropic community preferred. Skills: Experience building a portfolio, making asks, and closing major and planned gifts; Demonstrated success in growing major and planned giving programs, including managing a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects; Knowledge of ethical, legal, and tax implications involved in estate giving; Understanding of and commitment to professional fundraising ethical standards; Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in varied settings with diverse audiences; Excellent interpersonal skills; Strategic thinking, planning, and timely execution Ability to work and thrive in a team environment as a leader, participant, and facilitator; provide counsel and strategies to colleagues; Flexibility and enthusiasm to refine and enhance current systems and operations; Well-organized and able to meet goals and deadlines in a fast-paced environment; Donor database expertise, preferably eTapestry; Working knowledge of Word and Excel. Equipment to be used: Various office equipment, including computer, printer, copier, etc. Valid driver’s license required. Typical Physical Demands: Requires prolonged sitting. Requires normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare and communicated appropriate information.
