A Prayer for All Mothers
All-loving God, we give you thanks and praise for mothers young and old. We pray for young mothers, who give life and count toes and tend to our every need; May they be blessed with patience and tenderness to care for their families and themselves with great joy. We pray for our own mothers who have nurtured and cared for us; May they continue to guide us in strong and gentle ways. We remember mothers who are separated from their children because of war, poverty, or conflict; May they feel the loving embrace of our God who wipes every tear away. We pray for women who are not mothers but still love and shape us with motherly care and compassion. We remember mothers. grandmothers, and great-grandmothers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen! By Jill & Steven Haberman El Salvador is such a beautiful country! Where else would you find roses in December?” --Jean Donovan Last December, the community joined in prayer honoring Sisters Ita Ford, Dorothy Kazel, Maura Clarke and lay missionary Jean Donovan. The forty tulips, planted in faith and mixed with holy soil from the site of the martyrdom, are blooming vibrantly on convent grounds! They are our witness and hope in our risen Lord and the Communion of Saints. After a long winter, we appreciate God's gift of the bright sunshine and beautiful flowers of Spring! Another blessing to remember is the love and caring family, friends, and all the special people who have made and continue to make a real difference in your life. The Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi will have a special dedication prayer service in our garden honoring those whom you and our other benefactors hold dear. During this service, a beautiful tree will be dedicated as a living tribute to those who nurture, embrace, and support us throughout our lives. If you would like to send the names of your special people, living or deceased, to remembered and celebrated during this event, please use the link below and contact Sr. Marcia. https://www.lakeosfs.org/support-us/e-mail-sr-marcia/ The Sisters of St Francis celebrated Earth Day all week with prayer, Laudato Si’ discussion groups, legislative advocacy supporting clean water initiatives, and more. The week opened with a dynamic Monday social justice presentation by “Beevangelist” Charlie Koenen who worked with Sisters Helen Mertes, Mary Lou Schramer and Margaret Kruse to establish the beehives on convent grounds as part of the Earth Echoes initiatives. Charlie, or “Char-bee” as he likes to call himself, brought a hive containing 10,000 bees, and shared his “Bee-ology” a biology of bees with a theology of nature to emphasize the interconnectedness of all activity on the earth. This year, our Sisters decorated the San Damiano center with ornamental Easter stones. Roll Away the Stone was the theme and each member of the congregation had their name on a stone with a butterfly to signify the new life each of us bring to the congregation as well as the new life of Easter. The intention of the stones was very much like the ornaments on the Christmas tree. It was a visual reminder of the larger congregation being gathered together virtually.
