Praying, Living, & Loving the Franciscan Way
On Sunday, June 20th, Voces de la Frontera, a local Latinix support organization,
held a rally, launching a march to Madison, WI to highlight key issues: essential migrant workers should have driving cards to allow them to safely travel in Wisconsin, and a viable pathway to citizenship. Sr. Barbara Faris joined us representing the OSF community at the rally. Sr. Barbara joyfully engaged many of the participants with her ebullient nature and sincere respect. Music of African drums, Latino ballads and speakers representing Voces, migrant labor veterans, and the Indigenous Potawatomi tribe, animated the crowd. Marchers arrived at the state capital on Monday, June 28th

Our Sisters held a special Tree of Life dedication and prayer service in our grotto garden as a living tribute to those who nurture, embrace, and support us throughout our lives. We are grateful to those who submitted names of their loved ones for us to honor and will continue to hold them in our hearts through this beautiful tree!
For the 14th year, the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi participated in the Capuchin Walk for the Hungry as a sponsor and with a team. Our OSF Team had 36 participants from Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, New Mexico and Wyoming. Brother Robert Wotypka, OFM Cap., joined the team on June 8 for the walk at St. Francis Convent. Pictures were taken by Jim Van Hoven, Development Administrator for Capuchin Community Services; Jan Parrott and Jean Merry from the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi. #capuchinwalkforthehungry On May 28, our Sisters gathered to celebrate Foundation Day – commemorating the 172nd Anniversary of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi! Following the time in prayer, the Sisters enjoyed a pizza party, complete with beverages and an ice cream sundae bar. A special thank you to all those who contributed to the festivities, and to Giacomo Fallucca, the Chairman of the Board and CEO for Palermo Pizza, who donated all the pizza for the sisters to enjoy!

Joining the program in person were Sisters Irene, Clara, Theresa, and Ellen. The speakers commented how a conversation between Master Chen Yen and several Catholic nuns inspired her to guide her followers to do charitable work. In Chinese, “Tzu” means compassion and “Chi” means relief. Tzu Chi is committed to relieving suffering with compassion in four focus areas: charity, medicine, education and culture. Their philosophy encourages each individual to do one small act of kindness each day as a means to build love in the world. Begun in Taiwan, 1966 with pennies donated by a few housewives, this organization has grown into a global humanitarian aid resource. |
