Sr. Joanne donates history to the Milwaukee chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO)3/21/2016 Sr. Joanne Nicgorski (pictured), a musician, has taken on the task of sorting Sr. Mary Ellen Collins’ organ music. She says, “It is a great collection of serious, difficult organ literature...." She also found archival materials, e.g., original publications of John Singenberger and Franz Witt. Sister Joanne adds, “The reason we have this difficult, performance music is because Sr. Mary Ellen studied organ with Arthur Becker in Chicago and earned a master of music degree in organ at DePaul University.” In addition, Sister Joanne is finding music from beloved, long-departed music teachers from the congregation: Sisters Mira Stephani, Mary Herbert Robinson, Cecilla Freiman, Euphemia Arend, and Marie Ritzke, in additon to Mary Ellen. To share this wealth of music literature, Sister Joanne approached musicians, colleges and universities that might have an organ program. “There aren’t many places where pipe organ is taught,” she said. Finally, she was delighted that the Milwaukee chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) will accept the donation.
