Praying, Living, & Loving the Franciscan Way
“With love, we can all make a difference in the world.” --- Dharma Master Chen Yen On May 24th, members of the Milwaukee Tzu Chi, Director Shu Jen Kao, student Sofia, Sister Grace and Brother Kehau presented to the OSF community about their history and current work. Joining the program in person were Sisters Irene, Clara, Theresa, and Ellen. The speakers commented how a conversation between Master Chen Yen and several Catholic nuns inspired her to guide her followers to do charitable work. In Chinese, “Tzu” means compassion and “Chi” means relief. Tzu Chi is committed to relieving suffering with compassion in four focus areas: charity, medicine, education and culture. Their philosophy encourages each individual to do one small act of kindness each day as a means to build love in the world. Begun in Taiwan, 1966 with pennies donated by a few housewives, this organization has grown into a global humanitarian aid resource.
