Praying, Living, & Loving the Franciscan Way
Aug. 9, 2015
Sisters Adele, Barbara, Rita and Margaret joined Associates Eileen and Pat at the 2nd Annual Milwaukee Water Commons events held at 6:30pm to 9pm, Aug. 9 at Bradford Beach. The theme was: honoring the Great Lakes, invoking ancestors, and the Great Spirit to help us all to care for the waters. Groups leading us in song, prayer, story and dance were: The Strawberry Moon Singers, illumination by the Overpass Light Brigade, inspiring words from local community and spiritual leaders, percussion by One Drop and Jahmes Finlayson +Friends and acapella singing based on the stories and experiences of the audience by vocal improve group Blessing Next to the Wound. Thoughtful, contemplative, joyous, and moving are some of the descriptions of the evening. The improv group was especially welcome as it put some of our water stories into sung, artful harmony. Themes ranged from the waters of birth, to the waters of struggle and forgiveness, to the waters of nature, the sparkle of dew and the surging passion to save the beauty of nature for those of the future. At the entrance an ELF (Electric Light and Fun) car was on display. See the web site: Organictransit.com. The Milwaukee Interfaith site also has details on the vehicle. It uses very low energy; is both battery and solar powered; rides like a big bicycle; has head and stop lights; fits in the bicycle lane and goes up to 20 mph. It weighs about 130 pounds.
